It is my honour to be making my first trip abroad on behalf of the Government of Canada to the inauguration of the new President of Taiwan.
I will be travelling with other MPs, including my fellow caucus member Judy Sgro as well as a Conservative member of parliament.
I was invited many weeks ago after a very pleasant meeting with the Ambassador from Taiwan and his team. Among other things, we discussed Taiwan’s own indigenous people. I was surprised but delighted to be invited to the inauguration of the new President on May 20.
The tour involves visiting a number of businesses and factories, and I am hoping we can explore new markets for Canadian goods and services. It is also an opportunity to see whether there are economic models and businesses that could be models of success that could lead to the development of new jobs in Winnipeg Centre and across Manitoba.
